Charmaine Mischel is a multi-hyphenate fashion professional with multiple decades of experience designing for global fashion houses and mentoring the next generation of creative founders. Her journey spans the New York Fashion Industry, and Paris & London markets, plus the boardrooms and factory partners of key brands that helped shape fashion retail.

After designing for premium labels, including Brooks Brother's, Callaway, Garnet Hill, J. Jill, and Bill Burn's label for Nordstrom - where her design repertoire grossed millions in retail, her sportswear collection for Nordstrom was recognized and featured on the front page of Women's Wear Daily (WWD: Monday edition).  

Charmaine launched her namesake occasion-wear label in 2003, starting with DTC and expanding into specialty retail stores, then founded CM Design Agency, the distinctive fashion brand consulting agency for Emerging Designers in 2020.

As both founder and advisor, she recognized that there was an unfortunate gap in the education side of the market: fashion-schooled designers were still being taught how to design beautifully so they could work for existing design houses, but they were not being shown how to build a business of their own.

This insight gave birth to the signature Label Launch Blueprint program for independent designers who are intent on building profitable, purpose-led fashion businesses from the bottom up.

Charmaine’s approach blends timeless industry fundamentals with cutting-edge digital tools. She doesn’t just teach designers to launch collections - she teaches them to architect brands that are distinct, in-demand, and positioned for longevity. Her clients include classically trained designers, self-taught creatives, 9‑to‑5’ers in transition, and boutique owners ready to scale. What they all share is a desire to launch with intention, and skip the guesswork.

With her proprietary D.E.S.I.G.N. Formula, Charmaine guides her clients through brand identity, design development, preorder campaign, and production planning, fostering sustainable growth without the need for random fashion shows or "viral" content.

✨ The Lesson:  CLARITY IS GREATER THAN TALENT

It's a predictable story...  When Charmaine first launched her namesake collection she was more determined to make her grand vision visible than to slow down and build her brand strong. So, against her better judgement, she winged it.  Yesss, that was her..  Miss fashion-schooled, industry-refined Designer (who'd designed for one of the most prestigious Fortune 500 fashion apparel companies in the industry) ...was winging it.

That rush to create cost her time, frustration, capital and almost caused her to give up on her designpreneur-dreams.  Like it happens for most women - attempting to equally balance the role of founder, sister, daughter, friend & confidant (plus wife & mom to young children, including her beloved neurodivergent son) eventually began to take a toll.  Then one day, while questioning why she started this designer journey in the first place - like a breath of fresh air sent from heaven, clarity began to set in.

✨ The Epiphany:  SUCCESS LEAVES CLUES

Thankfully, her will was intact and her WHY was still solid. She believed that her creativity mattered deeply and her customers deserved to feel seen and heard. Then... just like that, her path forward became as clear as day. 

There was no need to re-invent the wheel when she could fortify the foundation of her business the way much larger brands do, but without all the red-tape! Once making the decision to fully utilize the knowledge she'd garnered (as she lived and breathed the real fashion industry for over a decade) even before venturing out on her own, she was determined to work smarter, instead of harder.
